NARRANDO S.r.l. is an innovative micro-enterprise specializing in research and devolpment and technical-scientific consulting in the engineering and chemical fields, with a particular focus on technology transfer and industrial innovation. Established as a spin-off of the University of Salerno, the company was co-founded in 2013 by Paolo Ciambelli, Professor Emeritus and CEO, following the project’s success at Start Cup Campania and the 2012 Italian National Innovation Award in the Life Sciences category.
The original project focused on the development of X-ray nanodosimeters for radiotherapy and diagnostic radiology, designed to perform in vivo, real-time measurements by a mini ionization chamber modified with carbon nanomaterials, including multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and graphene, to enhance sensitivity and overall performance.
Today, NARRANDO works on materials and processes for the Energy, Health, and Environmental sectors, covering the entire innovation value chain: concept development, experimental research, validation, and support for industrial scale-up.
Its expertise includes nanomaterials such as graphene, carbon nanotubes, zeolites, nanoparticles, and nanocellulose; energy storage technologies, including batteries and supercapacitors; sustainable packaging solutions, such as bamboo-based materials for food applications; food safety; process life cycle assessment (LCA); and heterogeneous catalysis and photocatalysis for industrial and environmental applications.
The team combines expertise in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering—Vincenzo Crisci, MSc in Chemistry; Michele De Filippo, MSc in Chemistry; and Antonio Capaccio, BSc in Mechanical Engineering—under the scientific and strategic leadership of Paolo Ciambelli, author of more than 380 publications and 16 patents, with an h-index of 53 according to Scopus 2025, and ranked among the world’s top 2% of scientists in the Stanford 2025 list.
This combination of skills enables NARRANDO to manage highly complex technical projects through a rigorous, results-oriented approach focused on practical and applicable outcomes.
NARRANDO participates in European and national research programmes, contributing to the development of advanced technologies. Current projects include Horizon RISE DiSeTCom, focused on terahertz components based on Dirac semimetals; Horizon RISE FLORIN, dedicated to fluorescent nano-agents for ultra-high-resolution imaging and sensing; and MECCA, centred on green hydrogen.
At the same time, the company develops industrial solutions such as microwave heating systems for chemical reactors, processes for recycling complex materials—including disposable diapers—applications involving advanced materials such as coloured gold, and functional coatings with antimicrobial and antiviral properties.
We collaborate with universities and international research centres, including Namur, Sofia, Exeter, Vilnius, the University of Eastern Finland, Harvard Medical School, and the Technion. We also support private companies such as NextChem, i-Foria, CapTop, Magaldi, Nippon Gas, and NatureBeads through technical consulting, experimental support, and the development of tailor-made solutions.
